Venice, Italy, 2019. The early afternoon sun felt hotter in June. We continued walking after lunch. I didn’t want to see anything more. I chanced upon a room along the streets of a small market I was wandering around. A very ordinary room. I peered into the window pane. Paint trays, a few plinths, a weathered director’s chair, a solitary black stool and a soothing quietness in black and white. I took a step back, and the colours of the commotion from the market flooded back in.
I stood in front of the room for a few minutes before hearing my name being called into the art exhibition in the next room.
