Reflections seeks to understand how our attention shapes our understanding of the world around us. The site-specific exhibition draws from familiar yet often overlooked phenomena, re-constructed in response to the spatial linearity of the tunnel: A row of utilitarian street lamps found throughout Singapore’s neighbourhoods, flying termites that swarm towards sources of light after heavy rain and reflections of sunlight cast through windows into private spaces.
Accompanying these works is a single flying termite at the end of its lifespan whose final reflections unpack the moments of human existential discomfort, longing, and anxiety it has witnessed within domestic spaces. Positioned as a silent observer of the passers-by in the tunnel, the swarmer pieces together an understanding of life while confronting the brevity of its own existence.
